Reflection On The NCO Camp And How I Feel About It
Overall I enjoy the camp a lot. Even though this is the shortest but most fun, wonderful and easy-going camp I had ever been too. This is a training camp for us to become NCOs, but without the senior and CIs all this would not had happen so I would like to thanks all the senior who help out in preparing this camp and also the CIs who plan this camp.
This camp really let me learn a lot, like all the games we played had an objective the CIs want to tell us. Example the poncho game even this game when we first go in it is stressful and lots of us wanted to give up but we still carry on as a team until the end the senior and CIs try to let lose and also give us support, this objective is to stress us first and give us support as to see under what circumstances are we better at working and thinking and also the whole group must have great communication skills so we will be able to direct each other through the obstacle. There is also another game called the spider game when we went in to the hall we were all blind folded and then we all have to make our way to the stage so we will be able to win or something, this objective should be trusting each other and listen to instructions, cooperate with each other and use the sense of touch to find your way through. There is also one more game called galang gune [don’t know spell correct anot] its like we have to get all the logistic first then we try to use all the resources we have to form a game, I find this game is the most interesting and the most difficult because we have to use our brain to think of creativity, objective and also the fun in the game, this game let me understand that we have to listen to every member first to think of what kind of game they want and then form up everyone’s idea to make a whole new creation of game.
I feel that I really bond with my peers a lot like we help out each other when another is in need, we try to support the other group and even though our this batch had lots of misunderstanding in the past, but we can still work as a team and walk this far. And also the communication within my peers are better now and the trust within us is stronger now and after this camp I find that those who hardly talk to each other starts to communicate better.

Cash payment for Homecoming Dinner
Please take note that CASH payment for HOMECOMING DINNER 2007 is available now! Just look for any of the CIs to make arrangements, or head down to HKS weekly Muster Parades on Thursdays, any time from 2.30pm to 5.30pm.

Dedicated to Sec4s (2006)
Yo all Sec4s (2006)! That's the end of your life in HKSS NPCC! Like what Mrs Long said, you guys are indeed a very obedient and unique batch. Obedient, but never boring with so many interesting characters among you all. We thank you for all your contributions, your efforts, your ways to make our days, and most important of all, for becoming a part of our ROOOOOARING family.
Ok, so what's next after ROD? It's applying all the hard and soft skills you've obtained throughout the years you've stuck on in NPCC. Determination, perserverance, humble, leadership, teamwork, flexibility, decision-making, withstanding pressure, and even the minor unseemly important ability to stay up till wee hours (remember what time you slept at Camp Leo 05?). We are sure that with all the skills you're equipped with, you guys will be able to shine.
Don't feel shy about coming back to look-look see-see during our Muster Parades... Once a LEO, forever a LEO. We might be changing our Parades to another day of the week, so look out for the updates.

The Sec 2s have specially prepared a "feast" for the Sec 4's Big Day! Not the marking of the end of O level (whoopee!), but the end of the phase of being a NPCC cadet~ However, once a LEO, forever a LEO! Do come back and visit us often!

ROD? ORD? POP?
What's up with ROD, ORD, POP?
ROD - Run Out Date
The date on which a national serviceman completes his two (for some, formerly two-and-a-half) years of full-time national service.
ORD - Operational Ready Date
With effect from 1 January 1994, ROD is known as as ORD.
POP - Pass Out Parade
The parade that marks you "graduating" or passing out for certain course of training.
*In HKSS terms, we termed it is ROD parade, and ROD dinner.

Incentive Scheme
We're trying to come up with an incentive scheme for the Unit - if each level managed to hit 80% of the attendance as a batch throughout a period of 3 or 6 months (to be confirmed), we'll have an outing to wherever you want to go, as long as it's in Singapore, and our funds allow us to do so.
After the outing, the attendance will be reset to zero, and you'll have to chalk up the attendance together with your batch to earn for the next outing.
During Camp Leo, we've feedbacks to activities/places such as - movies, kayaking (seemly the most popular), chalet and BBQ. Do let us know if you have any other suggestions.

Homecoming
A homecoming dinner for all ex-LEOs!! We're officially inviting all LEOs from the very pioneer batch, 1994, to LEOs of 2006. As HKSS will be tore down (or dramatically renovated) by 2008, we plan to set our dinner at June 2007. Entry will be granted by the sight of the purchased ticket, which half the amount of money will be donated to HKSS for the renovation.
It'll be the last chance to view HKSS, which many of us spent 4 or 5 years. The place will be completely different after the huge renovation. Also, it will be a once in a life time event for all the seniors and juniors to share experiences.
More details will be posted when everything is confirm.

Greetings to all graduated LEOs! Please be informed that you're welcome to join Camp Leo 2006 campfire, which will be on 2nd of Nov, Thursday. It would be held at Labrador campsite, at 8pm. We appreciate if proper attire is observed (no need PT attire la, hee). Just be decently clothed and slip in a pair of covered shoe. No slippers please.

Just some advices for the graduating cadets, who might be seeking for jobs during your 6 MONTHS long holiday (sighz, how envying).
Advice #1 - How to find a job
There's a few way of finding a job, either through the introductions from your friends/family/relatives/whoever, newspapers, or online www.jobstreet.com.sg or www.jobsdb.com.sg
Most of the advertisement placed online are done so by the recruitment agencies, and not the company itself. There's 2 ways a job agencies earn their upkeep, either the company pays them extra amount of money, on top of your salary, or they take a portion of your salary (e.g: company pays agency $8/hr for your work, but agency gives you $6/hr). So please note that, you can try negotiating your pay with the agencies!
If you want to get a job without the help of recruitment agencies, then you'll have to depend more on newspapers or through the word of mouth from others.
Either methods, you have to send your resume/CV(Curriculum Vitae) over to the agency/company and wait for them to call you down for interviews. The recruitment agency will have to ask you drop by at their office and sign a contract before they send you over to the company itself for an interview, it's not for sure that you'll get the job till the interviewer at the company confirms this with your agent.
Advice #2 - Safe guard yourself!
ALWAYS read through the contract BEFORE you sign it. Ignore the eye-pressure the person is giving you. After signing, make sure the person photocopy it, and gives you a copy.
You'll have to pay a sum of money should you breach the contract, such as resigning before your assignment time is up.
Advice #3 - What kind of job should I look for?
My advice is to try out as many different kinds of jobs as possible, since we're all not burdened with the responsibility of feeding the family yet, just trying to gain experience and that little amount of extra pocket money.
Do not feel that it is a waste not to go back to the previous company whom you've already been so close with your ex-colleagues, or that the pay is more than average. There's all the time in the world to join them as a permanent staff after your graduate.
You'll pick up more knowledge as you expose yourself to more different type of work. Then, when you finally graduate from education life, you'll understand better which kind of work suits you better.

Try not to sign up for a 6 months long job in a shot. Maybe you can sign up for 2 or 3 months. You'll not know if you can handle the stress, or if you'll dislike the working environment, or if you are not satisfied with the pay etc. Remember, you'll have to pay a sum of money if you breach the contract. If you really like the workplace so much, you could probably ask if they still need you, and ask for an extension. If not, like I said, try other jobs!
Advice #4 - When in doubt, always ask
Your agent will always try not to tell you how much is your salary, unless you ask. Please do so to your agent, not very nice to do so to the personnels at the company itself. Don't feel shy to reject the job offer if you think the pay is too low. The standard rate for secondary school graduates are about $6 and above.
Most of the companies doesn't pay you even though you skipped lunch to work. Clarify this with the personnels at the company before you do so.
Ask about the attire you have to be in at work. Some company doesnt allow, even temp staff, to wear jeans and slippers.
Advice #5 - Always use your brain!!! Don't get cheated!!
